So the idea is that teachers in each grade will focus on teaching and  
measuring particular grammar 'standards'?  I'm sure that others will have  comments 
about the standards themselves, but I had a couple of points about the  
language of the standards:
 
1.  #4 seems a bit ungrammatical to me: Can students 'demonstrate the  
mechanics' or do they need to 'demonstrate knowledge of or understanding of  
mechanics'?
 
2. Isn't it more acceptable to identify the language as "Standard English"  
or even "Standard Edited English" instead of referring to 'appropriate English  
usage'? ('Appropriate' is really ambiguous.)
