That's actually really helpful; I may use that in my writing center work
next year for my graduate assistantship because I'm going to grad school
with a scholarship for an English M.A.! *celebrates*

I didn't learn about FANBOYS until my junior year of college in my Applied
Grammar class, but I felt like I'd just found enlightenment when my teacher
explained them. It's so much easier to talk to students about "the FANBOYS
rule" rather than "the coordinating conjunctions between two or more
sentences" rule. It just seems friendlier somehow.
