ATEG Members,

I want to thank all of you who suggested book titles for my upcoming course in History of the English Language.

While I was aware of some of the titles suggested, many I was not.

I see a real gap in this area of textbooks that treat the history of the English language in the United States. Craigie, Krapp, Mencken, and Marckwardt are all gone. In my search, I did find A Host of Tongues by Conklin and Lourie, but it is hopelessly out of date.
