I was an undergrad major in Government and Politics and Criminal Justice.
Neither content areas required grammar instruction. In fact, the first time I
was required to take a grammar class was when I was doing my Masters in
TESOL. I thank God for my sixth grade teacher who believed in the importance of
sentence diagramming. Till this day I have used that to help identify
certain parts of a sentence. I applaud you for not introducing grammar as a
separate field to your students. Grammar is part of every course because it aids
in our literacy. It is not separated from any aspect of education.
Unfortunately, too many people do not recognize the importance of it. I am not
talking about prescriptive grammar but just the structural grammar so that
students can understand the function of their language, whatever language that may
be.
