I apologize for two postings on quite divergent topics. I address this question to list members who teach at a small to mid-sized college or university. In your department, how many faculty members normally teach courses in English grammar, history of the language, linguistics (varied assortment), TESL preparation courses (if that is an option in your department)? What I want to know is which departments support more than one (or two depending on the size) English language specialists. So to answer my question most simply, would you mind reporting the following information: (1) Number of English language (linguistics) specialists in your dept. (2) Total number of faculty in the dept. (3) Does your dept offer ESL teacher preparation courses? (4) How many different faculty teach TESL prep. courses? If you reply directly to me (instead of the list), I can tabulate the results and send you a summary if you are interested. R.
