I have just quickly looked over these documents, and they look very interesting. Thanks for sending the information. ___________________ Robert Lockhart Assistant Professor, English Education Curriculum and Instruction A301D Ginger Hall Morehead State University Morehead, Kentucky 40351 Office: 606.783.2834 Fax: 606.783.5044 http://people.moreheadstate.edu/fs/r.lockhart/ ___________________ -----Original Message----- From: Assembly for the Teaching of English Grammar [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Castilleja, Janet Sent: Friday, September 14, 2007 5:44 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: Re: [BULK] Re: From the esoteric`to the exoteric was Re: Functional grammar definition The Evidence for Policy and Practice Information and Co-ordinating Centre (EPPI-Centre), http://eppi.ioe.ac.uk/cms/ , affiliated with the University of London, has done some interesting work on this issue. I found them pretty convincing. http://eppi.ioe.ac.uk/cms/Default.aspx?tabid=229 http://eppi.ioe.ac.uk/cms/Default.aspx?tabid=231 Janet Castilleja Heritage University -----Original Message----- From: Assembly for the Teaching of English Grammar [mailto:[log in to unmask]] On Behalf Of Ronald Sheen Sent: Saturday, September 15, 2007 11:50 PM To: [log in to unmask] Subject: [BULK] Re: From the esoteric`to the exoteric was Re: Functional grammar definition Importance: Low The point that Robert makes concerning the inability some students have in learning about grammar and then applying it, raises a fundamental problem which partly explains the advocacy of the abolition of the teaching of grammar. However, what the advocates failed to do was to demonstrate empirically that such learners were able to learn more by means of exposure - and, I might add, never have done. And then, of course, the abolition of grammar teaching unnecessarily penalised those who could benefit therefrom.. As to the so-called colleague who 'publicly' corrected Robert's grammar, what can one say about such egregious behaviour. Typical I'm afraid of pretentiously pedantic 'pedagogues'.. Ron Sheen.
