For those members who have not encountered the sort
of fellow Brit who may still believe that the 'American language' is an
abomination, the following letter from last week's Sunday Times may prove
instructive:
'At the risk of appearing to be a fuddy-duddy,
am I correct that the BBC is conducting a competition to see which announcer can
produce the highest number of split infinitives in the shortest space of
time. I counted up to 200 and gave up to save my
sanity.'
