Okay,

I actually do need this question answered (the confidentiality question).  I had not previously read (or paid attention to) the "confidential" line.  Now, that I read it, I can extrapolate that (perhaps) participants do not want their explanations on this site published as "gospel."  Or, perhaps participants would have stated their opinions differently if they knew they were "going to press."

This is important to me, because...well...I have actually quoted some of you people...that's right...I used the ..."you grammar people" label.  I'm a grad student approaching the teaching of freshman composition from different angles and have used the more structured approaches stated on this website as ...well...antithetical to my approach.  I have not yet used any names.

So, will the administer or someone "in charge" please, please, review the appropriate use of statements from this listserv, so we can all be on the same page.

Thank you so much,
Liz

This is bewildering. If you're a petty criminal now, I'm a felon. I've advertised ATEG to countless students, friends, and colleagues, not to mention the anonymous Web users who have stopped by any of the sites I've worked on.

I recently received a post on another listserv where a grammar question
was being discussed.  Since there is a wide range of language teaching
issues discussed on that listserv, I posted a message to other members
that if they really love grammar and would like to participate in some
excellent dicussion of grammar issues, they might subscribe to the ATEG
list.  One of them accepted this invitation, subscribed, and got a welcome
message with the following lines included:

"IMPORTANT: This list is confidential. You should not publicly mention its
existence."

Have I broken a rule in recommending the ATEG list to others?
