Funny thing happened yesterday. A young man of my acquaintance is taking a 3-hour-once-a-week English class at a community college. I asked him to please ask his teacher, what is the past perfect? At the break, he approached his teacher and asked the question. She said she would have to get back to him. He explained that a friend asked him and also asked that the answer be brief.

The teacher replied, Well, let's look it up, which she did on her computer.

Student: What shall I tell him?

English teacher: Hand me a piece of paper. I'll write it down for you.

What she wrote and what he brought to me was, "I don't know". Just those three words.

True story, so help me God.
