If the subject is followed by 'be excited', then 'excited' is an past participle adjective, and it can be followed by 'to-infinitive'.
If the subject is followed by 'excite, excites, excited' without 'be', it is an active transitive verb. And it is never followed by 'to-infinitive', I guess.

are your thoughts about the usage of the transitive verb excite followed by an infinitive? I come upon it somewhere almost every day now and am discomfited by it.
