Dear Listmates,

My school, BASIS Scottsdale, a charter school in Arizona serving grades 5-12, has openings for 5th grade teachers in language arts and geography. We are rated very high by the various media outlets who have set themselves up as arbiters of achievement in education (for what that's worth). This really means that we attract highly motivated students and families to our schools, which require a large number of AP courses for graduation. We are looking for people with solid subject knowledge, preferably a major in the field (although exceptions are made if the candidate can demonstrate impressive knowledge without a major). We rarely hire anyone with just a teaching degree, and we don't require a credential or license.

Other schools in the organization, mostly in Arizona, but also in San Antonio and the District of Columbia, have openings in most academic fields. The organization gives teachers a large amount of professional freedom to make curricular decisions, expects teachers and students to perform at a high level, and provides incentives for performance. We hire experienced teachers, recent graduates, career changers, and anyone else with a brain full of knowledge and a passion to share it.
