Have students always ignored their teachers' comments? Perhaps your ancient students were
“whining schoolboy(s), with (their)
satchel(s)/ And shining morning face(s), creeping like snail(s)/ Unwillingly to
school."

Just what I needed this evening! In fact, there are cuneiform tablets that appear to be written by students learning to write and that contain teachers’ corrections.
Unfortunately, I don’t know what periods of cuneiform these tablets are from. Perhaps someone on the list knows more about this.
