Hello everyone! We are excited to announce the Twenty-Fifth Annual ATEG Conference:

ATEG 25 – Rising to New Heights in Grammar Teaching
September 5-6, 2014

University of Colorado Colorado Springs

1420 Austin Bluffs Pkwy

Colorado Springs, CO 80918

NEWS FLASH: Martha Kolln will be able to join us at the conference!

In 1989, Martha Kolln, author of Understanding English Grammar and Rhetorical Grammar, founded an interest group of the National Council of Teachers of English – the Assembly for the Teaching of English Grammar. From the beginning, this group offered teachers from kindergarten through college a forum for discussing best teaching methods. ATEG members created a website, a  listserv, a journal, and began annual conferences to bring together grammar teachers from throughout the English- speaking world.   Now we are celebrating our 25th anniversary. For a quarter of a century, the group has been bringing grammar teachers together virtually, in print, and face to face.  We have weathered the storms over the proper way to teach grammar. Now we are in a position to guide the nation’s teachers in using grammar to help their students to attain the Common Core State Standards. To celebrate our birthday, we are not going to rest on our laurels, but instead, we will plan ways to rise to new heights in grammar teaching.

Our conferences are a wonderful time for grammar teachers of all levels to talk shop. Accordingly, we are calling for presentations on any teaching techniques which you would like to share. Let us know the methods which met great success and also those methods which are still a work in progress. It is amazing what happens when teachers have the free time to explore the art of teaching; too often we are in the stressful world of planning, teaching, and assessing, without time for reflecting.  It is also amazing what happens when we cross pollinate ideas: techniques which work on the elementary level often have great success when they are adapted for middle school, high school, and college.

We hope you will be able to come meet the people you talk to on the listserv!

See the ATEG Site for information on registration, submitting proposals, and lodging.

Please let us know if you have questions.
