Wayne State U. Press, 1991 (in which Gilyard alternates chapters of his
AfricanAmerican upbringing with research summaries and comments on those
aspects of language).  And James Paul Gee's Social Linguistics and
Literacies:  Ideology in Discourses, 2nd ed. London: Taylor and Francis,
1996.  I've used both of these.
