Recently, there have been postings questioning the appropriate use of quotation marks and accompanying punctuation. I spotted the following sentence in an exercise on comma usage from Warriner's English Grammar and Composition, Fourth Course:
Roy Rogers "King of the Cowboys" sang with the Sons of the Pioneers married Dale Evans and starred in many Westerns.
While most will agree with Warriner's itemsin a series corrections in the ATE, I would appreciate any justification for placing a comma outside a quoted appositve phrase:
Roy Rogers "King of the Cowboys" , sang with the Sons of the Pioneers, married Dale Evans, and starred in many Westerns.
Have I forgotten something, or is this yet another typo, i.e. inaccuracy in this series of textbooks?
