Subject: FW: free training&dvlpmnt database
We are forwarding this message in full because it describes
a new free access training and development Internet database.
The service, as described, is under construction, and we would
find feedback on any aspect of it from the members of this list
to be invaluable.
---------------Original Message---------------
We have created a free access database that provides detailed
information on training and development resources, and we are
in the process of putting it on the Internet. Please see our
Internet World Wide Web home page at:
        http://www.tasl.com/tasl/home.html
for progress on its status.

Training And Seminar Locators (TASL) is an information service
focused on two things:

1) helping people in business and industry easily find choices
of training and development resources anywhere in the U.S.,
and within two years anywhere in the world, when, where,
in the form, and by the providers that they select; and

2) providing a high visibility and economical place where
providers of training and development related resources
    (commercial providers, educational institutions, industry
associations), and their offerings, can easily be found.

The free access TASL database will begin small, with the resources
of approximately 100 providers, and will grow gradually, increasing
its value to users as it grows.

It is divided into 4 categories of resources:

1) public seminars, certificate programs, satellite presentations,
    industry conferences and expositions

2) seminars and training and development related services offered
for delivery in response to customer requests

3) computer and video based training products, authoring systems,

simulations and games, training management systems, performance
support systems, and other training related products; and

4) training and meeting facilities, and satellite downlink sites.

Our intent, in combining these categories in one place, is to make
it as convenient as possible for people in business and industry
to find training and development resources on whatever subject,
and in whatever form serves them best.

We do not plan to include in the database, degree programs or classes
for which students must matriculate or become members of the school
in order to attend.

People will be able to freely search our database by:
        resource type,
        subject, and where appropriate by
        date and location.

Those searching the database will get approximately a screenful of
information about each resource that meets their criteria. This
information in general will include:
a brief description of the resource
        its target audience
        pricing
when and where it is available
what qualifies and differentiates the provider,
                in the provider's own words
        how to contact the provider
a statement of the provider's customer satisfaction
policy, again in the provider's own words
how to register, order, or request more information

Eventually it will also include the ability to register, order
and request more information while on-line.

Training and development resource providers will be encouraged to
enter and maintain their listings on the database from their own
location, but we will do the entry for them in the event that they
do not wish to do so.

We also offer the service of helping training and development
organizations create their own home pages on the Internet and
link them to our database, where those looking for t&d
resources can easily find them.

Future plans include allowing companies direct access to the
TASL database on their own internal networks, and providing
training coordinators with CD ROM subscriptions, where they
can regularly get updates of the information with the use of
any CD ROM equipped computer.

We are not personally filling requests for training resource
information over the next two months, because our efforts are
focused during this period on converting our existing database
onto the Internet, and on entering new t&d resources there.
In the future, companies will also have the option of having us
search the database for them and just provide them with the
results.

Please contact me directly at any time with feedback and
questions. We hope we have the opportunity to serve, and
partner with, you. You may also use our home page at any
time to tell us what and who you would like to see in the
TASL database, and to give us feedack on any aspect of our
service.
