UNH student injured in fall from frat house window
DURHAM, N.H. (AP) — A University of New Hampshire student was recovering
Sunday after falling out of a third-story window at a fraternity house.
Jacob Boisvert, 19, of Nashua, landed on a paved driveway and suffered
facial fractures and a serious wrist injury, but no injuries that were
believed life-threatening, said Scott Chesney, assistant vice president of
student affairs. He was in serious, but stable condition at Wentworth
Douglas Hospital in Dover.
"It’s fairly remarkable" he wasn’t hurt more seriously, Chesney said.
"My understanding was there was no party going on, but that drinking
probably was involved," Chesney said.
"We can help students understand that this is the kind of thing that can
happen sometimes when alcohol is used," he said, though cautioning that it
was not certain if Boisvert had been drinking.
Police released no details on how the student might have fallen or if
alcohol was involved. They were investigating.
Boisvert, who will be a sophomore, fell from the Phi Kappa Sigma house at
about 11:20 Saturday night. His parents were called and spent the night with
him at the hospital, where he underwent surgery for his wrist injury.
Chesney was not familiar with any previous problems involving the
fraternity. However, he said the university would conduct an investigation
into whether the fraternity was at fault in any way.
School doesn’t start until Sept. 4 at the university, and freshmen were not
due to move in until Friday.
Another student, Todd Cruikshank, 19, of Londonderry, a member of the Acacia
fraternity, fell to his death from the roof of the fraternity house in
August 1996. He had been drinking.
