I am not sure exactly what detailed info you are requesting but let me
give you a short summary.
We have had a few fire related emergencies in the past 5 years that I have
been here dealing with welding. They include (I can send more details if
needed) * Basement fire in our Fine arts Theater during
renovation. 2000 costumes destroyed, 1 million in insurance costs. Lack of
adequate fire watch by the contractor, sprinklers on scheduled shut down.
* Roof fire on construction project. Contractor cutting
plastic skylight bolts with torch. Ignited four skylights. No fire loss,
the skylights were to be demolished anyway.
* Welder set off fire alarms in our postal office. He did
not contact our office for a permit. He did not have a smoke detector
deactivated. No fire, but the evacuation upset a lot of people.
UNM has a welding program, protocol and permiting system for PPD, staff
and contractors. I can send you copies and details if requested.
