Subject: 1st SCEC meeting!!!: student_council_for_exceptional_children

Hello everyone!

Welcome back, veteran SCEC members! And welcome to those who recently signed up and are excited about joining this great organization!

As most of you know, Student Council for Exceptional Children is a student chapter of the national organization, Council for Exceptional Children. We aim towards service and community work with students and adults with exceptionalities. Along with Parent’s Night Out and Meet-the-Faculty nights, we have traveled and participated in CEC’s National Conference: this past year was in Washington D.C., and next year’s will be in Denver, Colorado!

With this being said, we would like for all of you to join us on Wednesday, September 14th at 7 pm in McGuffey Commons. We will be discussing plans for this year as well as possible leadership positions.

We would love for all of you to come with ideas for us to do this year. In fact, I have recently discovered an organization called “Buddy Up Tennis.” It runs every other Saturday in Cincinnati; volunteers are paired up with a student with Down Syndrome and complete fitness routines as well as tennis games with them. It sounds like a great opportunity and they would love our help!

As far as leadership is concerned, the exec board from last year is completing their student teaching and it is tough to fully commit and lead this organization while doing that. Those interested in a leadership position should have already corresponded with Adrienne Dimitrov - we will be briefly voting on new leadership positions at this 1st meeting so we can get things up and running.

If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to email me at [log in to unmask] or call/text me at 513-315-1658. Thank you and we hope to see you at the first meeting!

Emily
