Subject: FW: Announcement for Boren Fellowship Information Session

BOREN FELLOWSHIPS AND SCHOLARSHIPS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDY
https://www.borenawards.org/boren_fellowship

Boren Fellowships provide up to $30,000 to U.S. graduate students and Boren Scholarships provide up to $20,000 for U.S. undergraduates to add an important international and language component to their education through specialization in area study, language study, or increased language proficiency. Boren Fellowships and Scholarships support study and research in areas of the world that are critical to U.S. interests, including Africa, Asia, Central & Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East. (Study in Western Europe, Canada, Australia and New Zealand are not supported by Boren Awards.)

All academic and professional disciplines are eligible to apply; students in STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) fields are particularly encouraged to apply. Applicants must have a strong academic record and in interest in studying less commonly taught languages to be competitive. A list of eligible languages can be found at: https://www.borenawards.org/boren_scholarship/languages.html

Boren Awards are funded by the National Security Education Program (NSEP), which focuses on geographic areas, languages, and fields of study deemed critical to U.S. national security. Applicants should identify how their projects, as well as their future academic and career goals, will contribute to U.S. national security, broadly defined. NSEP draws on a broad definition of national security, recognizing that the scope of national security has expanded to include not only the traditional concerns of protecting and promoting American well-being, but also the challenges of global society, including sustainable development, environmental degradation, global disease and hunger, population growth and migration, and economic competitiveness.

An information session with a representative from the Boren Awards program will be held on:
Friday, November 16, 2012 at 10:00AM in Harrison Hall 111
Graduate and undergraduate students interested in Boren Awards are welcome and encouraged to attend.
Additional information and eligibility criteria can be found at:
