DETAILS:

The Diane Rehm Show (10 am - noon)
Hour 1: Consumer Confidence: Reports of corporate layoffs and
rising unemployment rates are making headlines, but at the same time
the stock market is up and so is the government surplus. A panel
talks about how all these often contradictory economic indicators are
affecting American consumers. Guests: George Hager, USA Today; Delos
Smith, senior economist, The Conference Board; Chris Carroll, assoc.
professor of economics, Johns Hopkins U.
Hour 2: Amy Richards and Jennifer Baumgardner: In the 60's
and 70's, the "women's movement" created Ms. Magazine, NOW, and other
organizations that seemed to define feminism. But every new
generation of women must re-define feminism for themselves. Activists
and writers Amy Richards and Jennifer Baumgardner talk about the
interests of today's young women in their book "Manifesta" (Farrar
Strauss & Giroux).

Fresh Air (noon - 1 pm)
What do the original Apple mouse, the Palm Five Pilot, and
the Crest standup neat squeeze toothpaste tube have in common? Theyre
successful, easy-to-use products, and they were all designed by the
firm IDEO (EYE-dee-oh). TOM KELLEY is the company's general manager.
He talks about the challenges of designing products for use in the
real world.

Public Interest (1 - 2 pm)
        Socially Responsible Investing

Talk of the Nation (2 - 4 pm).
Hour 1: PRESIDENT BUSH'S TAX CUT: This week, President Bush
is promoting his trillion dollar tax-cut proposal. It's part of his
plan to stimulate the economy and boost consumer confidence. But
critics worry the cuts are too big and should be used to pay down the
national debt. President Bush's tax-cut plan: whether it'll pass
Congress, and how it could affect you.
Hour 2: KIDS AND WORK: A study by the National Academy of
Sciences found that many teenagers who hold part-time jobs are
slacking off on their schoolwork. Those teens are more likely to be
late to school, sleep during class, and not finish their homework.
The findings have raised questions about whether teenagers should
work while in school.

All Things Considered (4 - 7 pm)
Allen Iverson of the Philadelphia Seventy-Sixers is one of
the National Basketball Association's hottest new stars. His game
stands out among the league's best. But Iverson isn't winning many
fans among league officials. Why Iverson's reputation for scrapes
with the law and a new hip-hop CD with some rough lyrics have the NBA
worried about his bad-boy image.
