Subject: Help with summer camp?
STUDENTS WHO ARE IN THE GREATER CINCINNATI AREA FOR SUMMER 12:
A wonderful community center in Hamilton, Booker T Washington Center, serves their community members in a variety of ways. One of them is to provide summer camp opportunities for kids in the neighborhood. The neighborhood is largely African American and quite a number of families have few resources. I have been among a number of people who have developed lots of curriculum for summer camp including gardening, sports, creating books and many others.
I don't think the center has a set schedule for camp yet but I do know they are seeking any and all volunteers willing to come and help.
All activities are pre-prepared and all you would have to do is show up, read the info and volunteer. (This is as far as I know - I am not aware of an orientation or anything but that is a possibility). I think you could volunteer for as little as one day or as much as several weeks.
Are you interested?
If so, please email Dr. Denise Baszile at [log in to unmask] (she is faculty at Miami in EDL) - tell her I referred you, please.
She is on the board of the Booker T Washngton Center and is helping to organize a lot of this.
This is a great opportunity to have fun with some wonderful kids and contribute something of value - your time - so young kids have some fun over the summer.
