At the University of New Mexico, we experienced the same problems. We only
have 2 uniformed campus police on duty per shift for patrol duties and
they can't patrol all the doors to a building during an emergency. We use
a combination of "Fire Wardens" to gaurd doors to certain buildings, or we
have campus police lock all exterior doors which are not being used for
entry by the fire department. We also have campus police remian on scene
to open those doors if needed by the FD. As a back up, we have the local
police called in for mutual aid assistance.
