REGISTRATION FOR SPRING, 2002 Hopefully, everybody knows about the procedures for registering for the next semester and many of you already have. It is prudent to register early during your time period. HINT FOR REGISTERING FOR SPECIAL EDUCATION PRACTICUMS IN SPRING If you are registering for EDP 459 of any type, register for that class last and secure your other classes first. For some configuration of majors, there may be a conflict BUT be assured that you should then just show up for the EDP 459 on the first day (or contact Dr. Ulrich before then) and you will be force added and adjustments will be made to your schedule. Remember, get your other classes first and and add EDP 459 (if, indeed, you are taking EDP 459) last. If rejected then you will be force added. If not rejected, then celebrate. MIDDLE CHILDHOOD, MILD/MODERATE, AND MODERATE INTENSIVE METHODS Remember, if you are taking methods courses to make sure you sign up for your special education methods AND regular education methods. Remember this METHODS STRATEGY as well if you are planning your schedule for the Fall of 2002. If questions still about what to register for please contact Jean Sheran ([log in to unmask]) for an appointment. NEXT STUDENT CEC MEETING---MONDAY, 7:00, ROOM 413 MCGUFFEY An important component of being a professional is involvement in professional meetings and continuing education. We enjoyed Mr. Tom Knestrict's September presentation on establishing and maintaining classroom discipline. The next Student CEC meeting will discuss the importance and realities of teaming. It is likely you will all be working in inclusive settings where collaboration with a variety of professionals will be necessary if you wish to have the maximum impact on the students you serve. Speakers for the evening will be three teachers (one of whom is an intervention specialist - Sue Killy) who work together at Kramer School and model best practices in teaming. They will discuss how they work, what you need to look for in your setting, and they will provide tips for maximum effectiveness in teaming. An important topic with excellent presenters. Be there (McGuffey 413, next Monday-22nd, 7:00). SERVICE LEARNING PROJECT for 495A - From Dr. Ulrich Fall cleaning? Needed: stove, cooking supplies, clothing, books, games, toys, and money donations The students in 495A have decided to donate a much needed stove to the Special Education Resource Room in one of the area Middle Schools. If you know of someone who would be willing to donate a new or used stove or have a contact who could get us a great price, please contact me or one of the students. The stove must be electric, self-cleaning and be in terrific condition. (We need it to be safe for the special education students and other students who will be using it.) We are also collecting money donations in Room 201 McGuffey for the purchase of the stove and/or pots, pans.... The 495A students have also found young students who are in desperate need of new and or used socks, underwear, hats, gloves, sweaters, sweats... any clothing- any size (they have brothers and sisters). If you are going through your clothes and have "gently worn" donations, please bring them to my office. We are also looking for new and/or used toys and books. Thanks for all your help. Mary Ulrich LISTSERV It is essential that all special education majors, minors, and pre-majors monitor this listserv. If you are on this listserv and fail to heed advice that impacts you, it is unlikely that heroic efforts will be made to de-jam you. If you do heed, and have difficulties, heroic efforts will be made. If you have a preferred email address we can add you at that address if you wish. Send along your preferred address. If you wish to be removed (you have graduated or changed majors), please respond as well. ----------------------------- Alex Thomas Educational Psychology Miami University 201 McGuffey Hall Oxford, OH 45056 (513) 529-6632-Office (513) 529-3646-Fax [log in to unmask]
