Loan Forgiveness the US Department of Education announced new changes to teache3r loan forgiveness programs. The program provides that math, science, or special education teachers who teach for 5 years in a Title I school may be eligible for new loan forgiveness limits signed into law by President Bush. The Taxpayer-Teacher Protection Act authorizes up to $17,500 in loan forgiveness. It is available to new borrowers (teachers with no outstanding loan balances prior to Oct 1, 1998, who borrow eligible loans prior to Oct. 1, 2005).
