Ambassadors for Children: Miami Chapter is dedicated to
improving the lives of children locally and worldwide. This is our second
year at Miami University and we are striving to make it as successful as
possible! Previously, our organization has done most of its work abroad,
but this year we are exicted about making local contacts. We will be
working weekly with the Emmanuel Center in OvertheRhine (Cincinnati) and One
Way Farm (Fairfield, OH). My current project is One Way Farm. This
facility houses 20 teenagers who have undergone physical or sexual abuse or
neglect. The facility includes a boy's house and a girl's house as well
as offices, a basketball court and an animal therapy barn. Volunteers are
needed to mentor/ tutor the kids, simply spend time with them, utilize the
animal therapy facility, help the children with their government monitored
activities scrapbook or any other ideas imaginable. We really need more male volunteers because the boys
at the facility are in desperate need of positive male role models.
Our group will be volunteering weekly/biweekly throughout the school
year. I encourage you to contact me (Lauren Sander) if you want
additional information on Ambassadors for Children or would like information on
volunteering at one our local facilities with us.
Ambassadors
for Children will be hosting an orientation picnic at One Way Farm in
Fairfield, Ohio (approximately 30 minutes from campus) this Saturday September 15th at 4 PM. We
will be carpooling from campus at 3:30 PM or people can drive there themselves.
AFC will be providing the main couirse but we ask that any volunteers
please bring a side dish as well as any sports equipment that they have (ie:
footballs, basketballs, cornhole etc). The picnic should last for several
hours and it will be a great opportunity to get to know the children that live
at the facility and to become familiar with the facitility itself.
One Way Farm
6131 River Rd.
Fairfield, OH 45014
*Mapquest should get you adequate directions if you cannot carpool with us
thank
you so much for your time,
Lauren
