TEACCH is one of the most commonly adopted models of intervention for kids with *autism *and this is an opportunity for training this summer. I don't see the cost so you'll have to investigate further if interested. Some school districts pay and send their teachers for training. IRCA REPORTER *Indiana Institute on Disability and Community * Indiana's University Center for Excellence in Disabilities Indiana University, Bloomington January 30, 2013 TEACCH 5-DAY CLASSROOM TRAINING PROGRAM June 17-21, 2013 Ellettsville, Indiana (near Bloomington) [image: structured teaching classroom pic] *Workshop Overview* Research consistently indicates that individuals with an autism spectrum disorder (ASD) respond favorably to a structured environment. This workshop will provide participants with an understanding of how and why to implement structured teaching strategies, such as visual schedules, work systems and deliberately designed work materials. Attendance is required for all 5 days. Program runs from 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. each day. *Who Should Attend* This workshop is designed for teachers, psychologists, physicians, speech and language therapists, as well as researchers, clinicians, primary caregivers, and others interested in educating students with autism and related developmental disabilities. *Goals and Objectives* The pace of the program is intensive. The daily schedule combines hands-on classroom experience (including setting up the classroom for five students), lectures on topics related to working with students with autism, and group discussions of classroom activities: •A direct, supervised experience in a demonstration classroom setting developed collaboratively by training staff and participants. •Hands-on experience with students with autism of varying ages (within the elementary, middle and high school range) and functioning levels. •An intense period of active learning. Presentations and demonstrations of working with students with autism, given by TEACCH program faculty and staff. * Attendees Will Be Able To:* •Describe the characteristics of autism; •Explain classroom assessment of children with autism; •Demonstrate structured teaching techniques; •Understand the importance of working cooperatively with families of children with autism; •Describe communication deficits, assess expressive communication and develop teaching techniques to address behaviors; •Use structured teaching techniques to promote students' independence as well as develop skills for leisure activities; and •Describe behavior management strategies and various levels of social interaction. *Cost* The registration fee for this workshop is $1990. Payment by credit card or purchase order only. We are limited to 25 participants only. Continental breakfast begins at 8:00 a.m. Registration fee does not include travel, dinner or accommodations, but lunch and refreshments are provided each day.
