SOPHOMORES - DO YOU NEED A BIO SCIENCE OR A GLOBAL?
Here are two classes that are technically first year seminars that have been opened to second year students!  Just to refresh your memory, a first year seminar is a class size of 25 max with a professor who is teaching in his/her area of passion - always very interesting classes.

Hello Rosalyn, Claudia, Brian, Roxann, and Marti,

Hope things are going well.  I'm hoping a few more students will enroll in the below first year seminars.  I've opened them to second year students if you know of any looking for MPFs.  As always, any help is appreicated.

Best,
John

MBI F107: Explorations in Microbial Diseases

Instructor: Aaron Greene
CRN: 76902.   TR 1:00 -2:20.  TBA.
Infectious diseases have plagued humankind throughout history, but only in the last 50-75 years have scientists elucidated the mechanisms microbial pathogens use in the process of causing disease. An appreciation of these mechanisms is important when microbiologists, physicians, and policy makers design strategies for the treatment and control of infectious diseases, especially today as we face the medical, economic and social problems raised by the AIDS pandemic and the threatened avian influenza pandemic. MPF: IVA Biological Science; CAS: D-BIO.

SPA F117: Communicating Across Cultures: Beyond Syntax and Semantics

Instructor: Renee Gottliebson
CRN: 76766.   TR 1:00 – 2:20.   BAC 049.
Investigates the human biological inclination to communicate, inherent barriers to communication, challenges we face in local and global intercultural communication, personal narratives regarding immigration and second language acquisition, and the changing ethical landscape. Topics will stem from current studies in language development, second language learning, cultural anthropology, and sociolinguistics.  It is the aim of the instructor to create a learning environment that encourages a respectful and comfortable reciprocal exchange for first-year students.  Global MPF: IIIB Global Course; CAS: C-Other Social Science
