*Benefits:*

· broaden perspective of teaching with field and teaching experiences abroad

· immerse yourself in everyday life in Caye Caulker Placencia, an island
off the coast of Belize and a peninsula respectively

· complete six (6) Miami credits: EDP 443: Audiovisual Instruction and EDT
221: Teaching English Language Learner - Satisfy the Miami Plan Study
Abroad requirement

· complete a part of the EDP technology thematic sequence as well as a part
of the Teaching English Language Learner (TELLs) Certificate

· volunteer and work closely with the local schools: pre-school,
elementary, and high school as well as in an adult night school

· participate in extracurricular learning experiences: snorkeling,
kayaking, dance and drumming lessons. Students can visit cultural and
historical sites on the mainland: Mayan Ruins, Museums, Zoo, etc.

*Costs:*

$2,100 plus airfare and tuition. Includes in all in country travel, all
housing, most food, field placements, and entrance to educational extra
curricular activities related to the classes. Some scholarships available
through Miami's study abroad office.

*Workshop Description: *This workshop is especially designed for students
seeking a teaching license who want to broaden their perspective of
teaching. Students will prepare for the sojourn through a series of modules
completed in Oxford. Once in Belize, students will immerse themselves in
everyday life in Caye Caulker Placencia, an island off the coast of Belize
and a peninsula respectively. Students will complete six (6) Miami credits:
EDP 443: Audiovisual Instruction and EDT 221: Teaching English Language
Learners. Students will meet educational reformers from the Belize Ministry
of Education. Students will volunteer and work closely with the local
schools: pre-school, elementary, and high school as well as in an adult
night school. Students can participate in extracurricular learning
experiences: snorkeling, kayaking, dance and drumming lessons. Students can
visit cultural and historical sites on the mainland: Mayan Ruins, Museums,
Zoo, etc.
