Dear ACM Members:

The next meeting of the Miami University Student Chapter of the
Association for Computing Machinery will take place on October 15th at
7:00pm. The program for the meeting will consist of two workshops on
web development. SEATING IS LIMITED -- read on to find out how you can
participate.

The Java Workshop will be led by Andrew Robinson, graduate student
in Systems Analysis. Andrew has recently been working with internet
development, including Java and active server pages, and is
contemplating a thesis on the subject. The evening's topics will
include:

* Basic applet creation with browser interconnectivity
* The structure of an applet
* Characteristics of Java compared to C++
* A brief introduction to multithreading

The Java Workshop will culminate with participants creating a simple
Java applet for their web page using Microsoft's Visual J++.

The HTML Workshop will be held simultaneously for those members who
are interested in a more basic introduction to web development. Don
Kidd and Asa Bour will lead the workshop. Topics will include:

The HTML Workshop participants will finish by creating their own web
page on one of Miami's servers.

To register for either of these workshops, please sign up on the ACM
Bulletin Board outside of the SAN office in Kreger. Seating is limited
to the number of computers in the lab in which the workshop is held, 233
KRG for Java, 213 KRG for HTML. Please note that since the workshops
will be held simultaneously you may only register for one workshop.

I hope to see you there,

Michael Clarkson
President, Miami University Student ACM Chapter
