         Department of English Literature, University of Sheffield

         A one day conference on Saturday 15 November 1997 at 10.00
   at the Theatre Workshop, Shearwood Road (off Glossop Road), Sheffield.
 
                    ___________________________________
 
   The conference will cover a wide range of literature. Initial
   responses range from The Ale House in Elizabethan drama to Women
   Drinkers in Contemporary Literature, and from individual texts (e.g. I
   Henry IV) and authors (e.g. Peter Redgrove, Brendan Behan) to broader
   themes and issues (politics, temperance, folklore ...).
 
   We hope to publish a collection of essays based on papers given at the
   conference.
