IVO Award

Every 2 years, the Addiction Research Institute of Rotterdam provides
a grant on addiction research. The Award aims at stimulating young
scientists to conduct high quality research in the field of addiction. The
grant is financed by the "Stichting Volksbond Rotterdam", a private
foundation with the objective of stimulating research on problems of
addiction. The grant for 1996 is Dfl. 20,000 for the prize-winner. The
grant should be invested in further research and/or further education in
this field.

Candidates considered eligible for the award are individuals who
conduct research into the use of substances such as alcohol, tobacco
and illegal drugs as well as research into problems associated with
substance use. Researchers who study other forms of addiction, such
as gambling addiction, are also considered eligible. Studies may
originate from different disciplinary backgrounds (e.g., social science,
epidemiology, medicine). Candidates from all over the world may apply
or be nominated. An individual researcher may apply by him/herself, or a
researcher can be nominated by other individuals, in which case the
nominee has to give his/her written consent for nomination. The
candidate must not be older than 35 years of age (on February 1, 1996).
Candidates should apply or be nominated on the basis of their scientific
publication(s), written in English. Former or present staff members,
board members and members of the scientific board of IVO are excluded
from nomination or application.
The prize-winner is obliged to give a lecture on his/her nominated work
at a place that the Addiction Research Institute shall appoint. The travel
costs that the winner incurs to collect the prize will be paid by IVO.
