Oxford UP's 20-volume American National Biography is now on the reference
shelves of my university's library.  The ANB includes several dozen
biographies of temperance reformers but very few of alcoholic drink
manufacturers.  By the way, the Oxford UP has in preparation an even more
ambitious project, the New Dictionary of National Biography, for the
British Isles.
