> The Woman's Christian Temperance Union (WCTU) was founded in 1874 to
> build public sentiment for sobriety, protect the home and community,
> promote good citizenship, build Christian temperance principles into
> the character of children, inform society of the value of total
> abstinence, and promote just laws. Educational activities are
> directed at teaching the scientific facts about the effects of
> alcohol and other narcotics on the body and on society. The WCTU
> produces videos, and other teaching aids for use in the classroom
> and in the church, and provides special narcotic education courses
> for teachers and church leaders. Two WCTU youth organizations, the
> Youth Temperance Council for ages 12 to 23 years and the Loyal
