Dear Mr. Malleck: When Colleen Viana contacted me about her need for
someone familiar with the Los Angeles area I told her that I was familiar
with the British nineteenth century temperance movement and suggested that
she contact the whole Alcohol and Drugs History Society to see in any of the
members/friends could help her. I did not suggest David Fahey because I
knew he mostly researched the British and then the Midwest American
temperance fields. I had not heard that he was involved in the Los
Angeles/California temperance movement. I did think Miss Viana's request
should go to the whole Society as there is sure to be someone who is
familiar with the California field among the members or their colleagues.

Dear colleagues.
Sorry about that. This probably didn't need to go to everyone (though
my unquestioning faith in David Fahey is not something to hide). My
apologies; I thought this had just come to me. My bad, as they say.
