Michael,
        One of the issues on which your paper might focus is why the
organization chose to call itself the "Woman's (not Women's) Christian
Temperance Union."  The best book on the topic is Ian Tyrrell, WOMAN'S
WORLD/WOMAN'S EMPIRE, which I hope will encourage you to broaden your
perspective beyond the United States.
