According to the Globe, no. 4, 1995, the  ban on alcohol in the Alaskan town of
Barrow ended 3 Oct. 1995 by a 910-834 vote.  Most Inupiat, native Northern
Eskimo, voted to retain prohibition, while most whites favored its repeal.  In
1977 Barrow voted to ban the sale of alcohol but not its consumption.  In Oct.
1994 voters completely banned alcohol in the town. The most recent referendum
allows bars and shops selling  alcohol as well as the private consumption of
alcohol.
