If you are not already aware of it, see the discussion in chapter two of
Mark Lender and James Martin, DRINKING IN AMERICA (NY: Free Press,
1982).  As I recall, they call Andrew Jackson's inaugural celebration one
of the most raucous, drunken affairs ever in the history of the U.S.
presidency.
