In reading Raja Rao's novel _Kanthapura_ (1938), set in southern India in
the early 1930s, I took interest in the Gandhian campaign against the toddy
booths. I knew that Gandhi was a prohibitionist but had not realized that
his civil disobedience campaigns sometimes were directed against the sale
of alcoholic drink. Does anybody have bibliographic or other suggestions
that would help me pursue this topic? Thanks!
