For women's involvement in the temperance movement Cathy Bogart might
want to begin with Ruth Bordin's two books, "Woman and Temperance" (1981)
and "Frances Willard (1986), Jack Blocker's ""Give to the Wind thy
Fears"" (1985) and Barbara Epstein, "The Politics of Domesticity"
(1981).  In a bibliographical essay in "American Temperance Movements"
Blocker also cites Harry Levine, "Temperance and Women in 19th Century
United States," in O. Kalant, ed., "Research Advances in Alcohol and Drug
Problems," vol. 5 (NY: Plenum Press, 1980).  There is also a good bio. of
Carrie Nation out there, but I don't recall the author.
