I came across a reference to a temperance society in St. John's
parish and on the estates of Wesleyan missionaries in Antigua in 1837
(Joseph Sturge and Thomas Harvey, The West Indies in 1837 being a journal
of a visit to Antigua...London 1838, Appendix A:vi). I wish to learn more
about temperance societies and reformers in the British Caribbean,
especially Jamaica and Barbados. Who were the reformers and where can I
find information about temperance societies in the 19thc British Caribbean?
Thank you, Fred Smith
