Contemporary Drug Problems 23 (Fall 1996): 559-66, provides an
eight-page review essay by Madelon Powers (History Department,
University of New Orleans, New Orleans, LA 70148) of the book by
David W. Conroy, In Public Houses: Drink and the Revolution of
Authority in Colonial Massachusetts (Univ. of North Carolina Press,
1995). By the way, Conroy's book is available in both cloth and
paper at reasonable prices, $35.95 and $15.95 respectively.
