I've been lurking for some time and must admit that now I need some help
although I have yet to be able to offer any. I am a 2nd year master's
student at the University of Oregon working on a syllabus for a
hypothetical class on gender in the Progressive Era. I am looking for
unique primary source material to use in the readings list for students
that elicit some of the gender issues inherent in the temperance and
prohibition movements. I feel a little overwhelmed by the amount of
sources available and could use some suggestions on sources that anyone
might have used in the past that worked well with students (i.e. not too
long and relatively clear) that look at temperance from points of view
other than those of the women in the movement (which I have many examples
of). I am more interested in the debate AGAINST the temperance movement
either by men or women, especially from immigrants or working poor who might
have possibly seen this as a form of discrimination against them.
