The American Historical Review 109/1 (Feb. 04): 282-83, has a favorable
review by Patricia Herlihy of a Russian-language book  by I.R. Takala
(2002).  The title of her book can be translated as The Merry Russians: The
History of Alcohol Problems in Russia.
