List-serv members may wish to know about a new and valuable
resource on the New York State Inebriate Asylum (about which Bill
White and I recently published a book: DRUNKARD'S REFUGE).
Roger Luther, a resident of Binghamton, New York, and a fan of the
asylum and a fine photographer and amateur historian, has set up
a website at http://nysasylum.com. The website includes
photographs of the exterior of the asylum and, best of all, of the
inside! Luther has recently gained entry to the building -- no easy
task: I was not allowed in there at all and had to work blind. What
is to be seen now is quite extraordinary -- worth checking out.
