re: Jessica Warner's request - Chapter 3 of Perry Duis "The Saloon" has a
discussion of turn of the century drinking by children in Chicago.  Footnotes
indicate sources are rather obscure, eg. Kimball Young's MA thesis, etc..
The topic interests me because my students are always asking about youth and
children of various eras.  I teach a course that spends about 4 weeks of
looking at history through a bottle, very selective and highly idiosyncratic!!
