The guidelines for proposals for the annual meeting of the American Historical
Association in Seattle, January 1998, appear in the AHA newsletter Perspectives
vol. 34 no. 6, September 1996.  There will be two rounds with deadlines on 31
October 1996 and 14 February 1997.  The 1998 AHA program committee chair is
