Timothy Hickman of the University of California, Irvine, presented an
excellent and thought-provoking paper called "Leslie Keeley's Gold Cure:
Addiction, the Gold Standard, and Authentic Selfhood in Fin-de-Siecle
America" at the conference on Addiction and Culture at Claremont
Graduate Humanities Center last March 2. I believe it reflects ongoing
dissertation work. He certainly was intimately knowledgeable about
Keeley's biography.
