The ATHG listserv group is sponsored by the Alcohol and Temperance
History Group, an international scholarly society organized about
fifteen years old.  It publishes the SOCIAL HISTORY OF ALCOHOL REVIEW
twice yearly.  It also holds paper-reading sessions concurrently with
larger scholarly organizations.  For instance, it sponsored several
sessions at the American Historical Association meeting in Chicago
last January and will present two sessions at the American
Association for the History of Medicine, Pittsburgh, 11-14 May 1995.

Although subscription to ATHG as a listserv group is without charge,
membership in the organization ATHG involves membership dues that
underwrite the cost of the SOCIAL HISTORY OF ALCOHOL REVIEW.
Currently North American members pay US$15, members in other
countries US$20, and institutions and libraries US$20.  Back copies
of the SHAR and its predecessor newsletters are available.  Director
inquires to the executive secretary.
 
The editor of the SOCIAL HISTORY OF ALCOHOL REVIEW is a specialist in
