Hi Everyone:

        We could use a good study of the Washingtonians.  Anyone interested
in them should consult Jed Dannenbaum's _Drink and Disorder_ as a good
starting point.  I think I remember Sean Wilentz discussing them briefly in
_Chants Democratic_ as well.  As for primary sources, some good bets are:

        Harrisson, David.  _A Voice from the Washingtonian Home_  1860.

        Johnson, Lorenzo Dow.  _Martha Washingtonianism_ 1843

        Two of the Fraternity.  _Washingtonian Pocket Companion_ 1842

        White, Philip S.  _Vindication of the Order of the Sons of
Temperance_ 1848

All of these contain some history of the Washingtonians.  I hope that this
helps.
